About Wanjiru Waithaka​

Wanjiru Waithaka is an accomplished Kenyan author and editor with over two decades of experience in the literary and publishing world. She has written six books, including the award-winning novel The Unbroken Spirit, which won third prize in the adult fiction category at the prestigious Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature in 2007. Her third novel, Silencing Anna, was released in December 2022, and her second novel, Duel in the Savanna, was made available online for readers to enjoy.

Wanjiru has also co-authored notable works such as A Profile of Kenyan Entrepreneurs (2012), which highlights successful Kenyan business figures. In addition to her creative works, she has worked on several non-fiction projects, including the Blue Book series, which focuses on development cooperation between the EU and Kenya as well as editing and compiling speeches for major conferences, such as The Media & The Africa Promise book from the 2010 Pan Africa Media Conference. Her expertise extends beyond fiction, as she has collaborated with prominent figures, including M.G. Waweru, former Commissioner General of KRA, and S.K. Macharia, founder of Royal Media Services, to write their autobiographies

Career, Education & Interests

Career: Editor of Sage gift magazine. Author of 8 books and numerous articles in newspapers and magazines in a writing career spanning two decades. Before that I worked in various administrative and marketing roles in civil society and the private sector over a 9-year period.

Education: Bachelor of Commerce degree in Marketing and an MBA in Strategic Management from the University of Nairobi.

Interests: The Arts, Media and Entrepreneurs particularly SMEs.

Achievements​

Wanjiru is an accomplished writer and editor, having worked as a staff writer and correspondent for the Nation Media Group. She has consulted for the European Union, WWF, various NGOs and private sector corporations in Kenya.
